Abstract
The efficiency of gas turbines depends on the gas turbine working temperature. Single crystal blades are being applied more often than equiaxed blades in gas turbine engines, to increase the turbine inlet temperature, resulting in enhanced turbine engine efficiency. Single crystal blades endure creep conditions at high temperature better than..... More

Physical Vapor Transport Process for Highly Purified Hg2Br2 Crystal: from Powder Purification to Crystal Growth
Ojun Kwon, Yonghui Song, Shi-Gwan Woo, Woojin Park, Byungjin Cho
Korean J. Met. Mater. 2022;60(7):551-556.   Published online 2022 Jun 3
DOI: https://doi.org/10.3365/KJMM.2022.60.7.551

Abstract
High quality Hg2Br2 crystal grown via the physical vapor transport (PVT) process is essential for the fabrication of the acousto-optic tunable filters (AOTFs) module. The full process flow, including powder purification and crystal growth, should be systematically established, but there have been few reports about the fully established process flow..... More

DOI: https://doi.org/10.3365/KJMM.2020.58.4.234

Abstract
Three kinds of Ni-based single crystals with the compositions of 63.8Ni-7.5Cr-5.1Co-4.8Al-1.9Mo- 0.9Ti-3Re-11.8Ta-1.2W, 61.4Ni-7.4Cr-5Co-4.8Al-1.8Mo-0.9Ti-3.1Re-11.6Ta-4W, and 60.9Ni-7.5Cr-5Co-4.8Al- 2Mo-1Ti-2.9Re-10.9Ta-1.2W-3.8Ru, in wt%, were cast in a Bridgman furnace. In the cast alloys, Cr, Co, Re, Mo, W, and Ru became microsegregated in dendrites consisting of γ-Ni, while Ni, Ta, and Al microsegregated in interdendrites..... More

Tin Microcrystals Synthesized by Thermal Chemical Vapor Deposition in a Hydrogen-Reducing Atmosphere
Daseul Ham, Won Jeong, Hyon Chol Kang
Korean J. Met. Mater. 2019;57(6):390-395.   Published online 2019 May 16
DOI: https://doi.org/10.3365/KJMM.2019.57.6.390

Abstract
We demonstrate a synthetic route to high-quality Sn microcrystals using thermal chemical vapor deposition (CVD) in a hydrogen-reducing atmosphere. During thermal CVD with SnO2 powder, a mixture of Ar and H2 (4%) gases was used as a carrier gas to maintain a hydrogen reduction environment. Hydrogen maintained a reduction environment..... More

DOI: https://doi.org/10.3365/KJMM.2018.56.10.745

Abstract
The CMSX-4 superalloy including refractory elements was directionally solidified using the seed of a [001] single crystal to control the growth direction to [001], where solidification velocity was changed from 25 to 160 μm/s. In the log-log plot between spacing and solidification velocity, the primary dendrite arm spacing and secondary..... More
